From 22 to 24 October, in partnership with the corporate foundation of Dutch partner Albert Heijn, the Louis Omer-Decugis Foundation ran the second edition of its health campaign aimed at mango workers (permanent agents, harvest technicians, certified producers) and their families.
Like last year’s campaign, the 2021 edition, led by an Ivorian medical team including the medical adviser of Sodipex, SIIM’s associate producer in Côte d’Ivoire, consisted in vaccination against meningitis and deworming, but was also extended to other public health issues that are particularly pressing in Africa, with screening for malaria, high blood pressure and diabetes.
A total of 1,357 people – 13% men, 23% women and 64% children – were covered by the campaign. Depending on the case, positive results detected after the various screening processes gave rise to a medical prescription (for malaria) or advice on the appropriate health and dietary response for cases of high blood pressure or diabetes.
A new campaign has been scheduled for 2022.
